In our trade, we use many different instruments to gather our evidence. Here is a brief summary of the instruments that we may use on an investigation and what their purpose may be.

Digital Audio Recorder		This instrument is used to gather audio anomalies. This usually comes in the form of EVP's.
Digital Camera		The digital camera is an instrument that we use to gather visual anomalies, such as orbs. It can also on occasion catch mists and sometimes, if your very lucky, apparitions.
Sony DCR-SR100 Hard Drive Camcorder		The reason that I specifically use Sony cameras, is that, for their price, they seem to have a remarkable night shot. We use this instrument to capture things in much the same way as our digital cameras. However, because the fact that it is video, and that it uses night-vision, the evidence gathered through it is much more convincing. Also this specific camera has a 30 gig hard drive built in, which makes it easier for us to transfer the data to our pc for analyzing.
EMF Detector		This instrument can detect electromagnetic fields. It is believed that a ghost creates these fields when trying to manifest itself. You can sometimes use this device to detect when a ghost is present. You can also then track the ghost sometimes with this instrument.
Infrared Thermometer		This instrument is used in much the same way as an EMF Detector. When a ghost manifests itself, it draws energy out of the room, this, intern, makes the room colder. It is also believed by people that when an inhuman spirit or demon is present, that a room suddenly get hotter. This instrument is useful in these cases since it can detect temperature changes in real-time.
Infrared Cameras		This instrument is very useful in larger investigations. We connect up to four of these to our DVR system and leave for the duration of our investigation in areas of high paranormal activity. Since these cameras have infrared led's, they can see fairly well in complete darkness, and evidence recorded with them is fairly convincing.
DVR System	Picture Not Available.	Our current dvr system only allows for four cameras to be connected. However, you can have many more hooked up on better systems out there. A DVR allows for multiple cameras to be connected and recorded for later viewing.
